Avolon sponsors 30th Dublin International Piano Competition
On Monday 23 October, the Dublin International Piano Competition (DIPC) hosted an Anniversary Gala Dinner in the Grafton Suite of the Westbury Hotel to mark the 30th anniversary of the competition.
The DIPC is one of the most prestigious and high profile competitions for aspiring pianists around the world. Avolon supported fundraising evenings for the event which has ensured the continuation of the competition.
The Gala Dinner, hosted by world-renowned Irish pianist John O’Connor included recitals from the latest winner Nathalia Milstein, and a special performance from Philippe Cassard, who won the inaugural competition. Mr Cassard has since established an international reputation as a concerto soloist, recitalist and award-winning chamber musician.
Avolon employees were treated to excerpts from Debussy’s L’isle joyeuse and Ravel’s La Valse.
The DIPC hosts and presents the triennial competition, which brings the best, young pianists from around the world to the stage in Dublin. A leading arts and cultural event, it has helped establish Ireland as an important music destination while also putting a spotlight on national musicians.
The organisation also runs a schools education programme to encourage development of piano music in Ireland as well as presenting a programme of events throughout the year in important music halls and venues in Europe and North America.
The next competition is being held in May 2018. For more information about the DIPC, please visit www.dipc.ie.
