On the 12 November, 2014, a team from Avolon completed the 5km and 10km Run in the Dark on behalf of the Mark Pollock Trust. In total over 15,000 runners participated in the event in cities around the world with a team of 35 representing Avolon at the flagship event in Dublin and a further two participating from one of Avolon’s global offices in Stamford, CT.
Avolon continues to support the Run in the Dark event by becoming an official sponsorship for the fourth year in a row. The event has grown in popularity over the years amongst the members of the Avolon team and with it a bit of friendly competition. This year saw two members of the team complete the 10km run in under 41 minutes which in and of itself is a remarkable achievement.
The Run in the Dark, was established in response to Mark Pollock’s paralysing accident in 2010. The money raised will go directly to the Mark Pollock Trust, which is working to further develop the global understanding of paralysis and efforts to find a long term cure. Mark is also pioneering research which allows those with paralysis to stand with the aid of robotics and plans to introduce this across Ireland. The Trust aims to be a catalyst for collaboration, connecting scientists, technologists and physiologists around the world to mainstream research that is currently on the fringes.
The Avolon team raised over €6,000 for the Trust and would like to thank the generosity of its clients, business partners, and friends for helping support this very worthy cause.
