Cerebral Palsy Lanka Foundation (CPLF) was started with the objective of providing educational and therapeutic services. The organisation has two resource centres that offer much-needed education and therapy. Cerebral Palsy is a group of non-progressive disorders of movement and posture, it is one of Sri Lanka’s most common permanent childhood disabilities. Highly stigmatized, it affects an estimated 40,000 local children, many of whom are completely disabled, so much so, that they cannot walk or talk, let alone take care of themselves.
The Around the Pear Projects ultimate goal is to donate 40,000 wheelchairs to the children with Cerebral Palsy in Sri Lanka. To date, funds for 1,100 wheelchairs have been raised and 10,000 wheelchairs have been distributed across Sri Lanka. The special wheelchair donation camps for children with Cerebral Palsy will provide an opportunity for parents to seek assistance if they have a child with Cerebral Palsy or if they suspect that their child may be affected by the disorder.
Avolon’s donation will help the foundation to near its goal of wheelchair donations. In future, we will be looking at sending some Avolon staff to participate in their annual cycling event which happens in April every year.
