[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]On April 15th, the Avolon Hong Kong office held a bake sale in aid of Food Angel Hong Kong raising €2,000 for the charity that rescues edible surplus food from different sectors of the food industry that would otherwise be disposed of as waste.
Since its foundation in 2011, Food Angel has served 2,956,453 meals and rescued/recycled 2,474,823 kg of food that was headed for landfills. Food Angel currently serves over 6,000 nutritious hot meals and food packs to underprivileged communities in Hong Kong using more than 100 charity partners across Hong Kong every day.
70% Elderly, 20% children from low income families with the remainder going to the homeless, people with disabilities and mobility issues. They don’t receive any government funding or support and rely on donations.
Their most expensive overheads are kitchen rentals and the logistics of ‘rescuing’ food and delivery of hot meals twice daily.
Every HK$100 helps them to serve 10 hot meals a day to those most in need.
