[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]In January 2015, Avolon partnered with Camara Education to provide Camara’s first solar powered computer lab in Ethiopia.
Over the last 5 years, Camara has worked with local schools to build computer labs with refurbished computers loaded with educational resources to primary and secondary schools across 7 regions in Ethiopia, reaching over 600 schools. However, increasing demand coupled with local of consistent power in most primary schools has led Camara to explore the use of solar technology to power it labs.
Avolon has been paired with Meshesa Primary School in the Wag Himra Zone of the Amhara region. Meshesha, which is not currently on the national power grid, has approximately 940 primary school students and 42 teachers. The classroom will hold 10 low-energy computers, 1 teacher workstation, LED classroom lighting, a power bank and a set of solar panels on the roof of the classroom.
The lab is scheduled to be completed during Summer 2016. Further updates will be available as the project progresses.
Avolon is delighted to work with Camara to continue its vision of making world-class technology-enabled education accessible to all.
Camara supports both local Irish and global communities by providing the hardware and support tools they need to foster youth education. Since 2005, Camara has reached 1.4 million children in disadvantaged communities in Ireland and across the globe, and it has a target of reaching 2 million children by the end of 2016.
