Annual Golf Classic in Aid of the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre - May 2019

The 26th annual Golf Classic in aid of the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre (DRCC) was held at Castle Golf Club on 24th May. Avolon has sponsored this event since 2012. Twenty-five teams competed in the sunshine for the Joe Carr Perpetual Trophy which was presented to the Centre in 1993 by the late Mr Carr. Unfortunately, the Avolon team, lead by Ned Musgrave could not beat the winning team’s amazing score of 107. Dinner was followed by an input from Dr Günther Grun (aka Barry Murphy) with much hilarity.

Ongoing media reporting of rape and sexual assault cases and the #MeToo campaign have greatly heightened awareness of sexual violence. As a result, there is an ever increasing demand for the services of the DRCC. The proceeds from the Golf Classic will enable them to offer additional appointments as they are now in a position to hire a new part-time therapist. This will alter the lives of many on their waiting list, who with counselling and care will heal from their trauma. Sexual violence is a difficult concept for many. As well as the financial benefit, the Avolon involvement certainly encourages other corporates to look at investing in the DRCC. The Dublin Rape Crisis Centre is proud to be associated with Avolon and its corporate values.
