Chamos - Oasis Project

The Oasis Project will transform a barren 800m2 area in Petare - the biggest slum in Venezuela - into a fun, safe place where 1000 kids will be able to play, rest, and have a source of clean water. This 'oasis' has been designed by 76 of the children themselves, through a programme run by our local partner

At the time, Avolon’s donation of $5,000 brought Chamos budget to a total of over $32,000, placing their project second in the leader board of nearly 500 projects in terms of fundraising.

The Oasis Project was completed and inaugurated in June! The chair and the Chief Strategy Officer of Chamos visited the facilities at Nuestra Señora del Encuentro school earlier this summer. They were extremely pleased with the results and all the work done by everyone involved, including the 13-year-old children who designed and help to build and decorate the park. The park now has a climbing frame, a covered area (which will be used as a sort of outdoor classroom), tables and chairs. Chamos also included a testimony from Carli, who has been part of the Oasis Project since the beginning: “We have been wanting a park for 8 years and we’ve been working on it for 2. I can’t believe this is finally happening!”. It is important to note that for these children this park represents a huge accomplishment as most of them come from very poor backgrounds, without many aspirational role models.
