Simon Community’s Room to Improve project at Chester House & The Borough Apartments

The Avolon Legal Team spent the day renovating apartments in one of Simon Community's short term stay accommodations and provided them with the tools to upgrade the kitchen facility and their training rooms. Simon Community celebrated it's 50th year of providing support to those struggling with homelessness. We all had a great day giving back to a charity that  has been and continues to do great work!

‘Room to Improve’ is not just about painting, decorating or gardening, it is about  volunteers  gaining  an  experience,  meeting  people  who  work  or volunteer for Dublin Simon Community and the people who access the Simon Community’s services. It is about working together to make a difference to the services they  provide,  with  an  overall  aim  of  creating  a  homely  and  welcoming environment  for  clients  and  residents  throughout  Dublin Simon Community.

The Chester House high support housing service provides accommodation for single people who are homeless and might live with mental health, addiction or personal care needs. Residents are mostly people who have been homeless for long periods of time and who do not have the capacity to live independently. Every resident has their own room and there are also large communal rooms and gardens. The Borough Apartments provide permanent accommodation for people and  families  who  have  experienced  homelessness.  There  are  eight apartments  in  total.  They  are  fully  functional,  safe  and  private,  giving residents  the  opportunity  to  rebuild  their  lives.  Tenants  receive  visiting support from the Support to Live Independently team who visit tenants in their  new  home  to  help  them  settle  so  that  they  are  comfortable  living completely independently.

Dublin  Simon  Community  is  committed  to  providing  the  best  possible service  to  their  clients.  The  physical  environment  is  of  paramount importance and a clean, aesthetically pleasing building, gardens and living environment has been shown to positively impact a client’s mental health  and sense of self - worth.
