TrainM8 'Gimme 1,000' Challenge - Pieta House & Irish Cancer Society

Fundraiser challenge for Pieta House & Irish Cancer Society

This event was a fundraising effort organised by TrainM8 on behalf of Pieta House and the Irish Cancer Society. It helped make up lost funds after the cancellation of their two flagship events, so that these charities can continue to provide vital resources to our local communities. The goal of the event was to raise €100,000 and the final amount raised was €283,201.04. The event was a 'Gimme 1,000' challenge which involved 1,000 reps of any exercise. A group I was involved with cycled 1,000km between us on Saturday 20th February 2022. Like so many people in Ireland and around the globe, we have unfortunately been deeply affected by the focuses of this charity and this was the motivation behind us entering the challenge.  Most of the groups participating were in person, but there was a wide mix of remote participation given it was in the middle of lockdown. While the main goal of the event was the raise funds for these powerful charities, this event also importantly brought together communities in times when morale was low during the tightest lockdown in Ireland.
