On the 5th September, 10 Athletes participated in the Brittas Bay Triathlon in aid of Darndale Childcare Centre.

The Darndale Belcamp Integrated Childcare Service Ltd opened in 2001 with its aim being to provide quality childcare at an affordable cost to the Darndale, Belcamp and Moatview communities, a recognised area of social deprivation. Since then it has grown into the largest community childcare facility in the country catering for 260 children from 0 to 12 years of age in baby, wobbler, toddler, pre-school and after-school groups.

The vision of the Centre is to promote a strong foundation for lifelong learning. Through active learning the experienced, qualified and competent staff team nurture fun loving and inquisitive children. They work in partnership with valued parents and a supportive community and ensure that every child has the tools to build a great future and live their dreams. In 2013 the centre was awarded the prestigious Siolta Award for quality early years education. This year the Centre highlighted the issue of how government cuts in funding were damaging the sustainability of the centre. It unfortunately has been unable to secure additional funding from the government. However, this fundraising will go directly towards ensuring that the service remains open and continues to offer a great start to some very vulnerable little children and their families.

The athletes raised over €6,500 for Darndale on the day, and proudly, Avolon was one of the main sponsors of the event.

Apart from raising a significant amount of cash, Avolon came home with two medals, with Suzy Stock winning silver in the ladies sprint category, and Stephen Quinn winning bronze in the gents sprint category!
