[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]In 2014, eleven of the Avolon team committed to taking part in the Great Ethiopian Run on behalf of Orbis Ireland. Orbis is an Irish charity which works to eliminate preventable blindness and restore sight to rural villagers in the developing world, and not least the poorest regions of southern Ethiopia, through sight saving operations and education. A rigorous fundraising and training effort ensued, at the end of which the Avolon Eleven had raised over €34,000 for Orbis and were race ready! The Great Ethiopian Run, Africa’s biggest running event, took place in Addis Ababa on 23rd November 2014. The Avolon Eleven, battled heat, altitude and steep inclines to successfully complete the run amongst 40,000 runners from all over Africa and the world!

The Avolon team spent three days in Addis Ababa, during which they sampled traditional Ethiopian life and culture. Most importantly, during a visit to the Orbis project at Menelick II Hospital, the team witnessed the inspiring hard work and dedication of the eye care professionals which Orbis train, and the life changing impact to Ethiopians as a result of Orbis’ tireless efforts and support.

A big thank you from the Avolon Eleven to all the supporters of this incredible event and worthy cause!
