APAC CARE DAY 2019

The Avolon APAC team partnered with Splash Projects to build a wheelchair accessible sensory garden and outdoor space for the residents of the Salvation Army's Hoi Tai Residence for Seniors in Hong Kong.

The Hoi Tai Residence is home to 132 residents, with 90% aged 90 or above, 80% requiring the use of assisted walking tools, and 45% living with some level of dementia.  The team took an unused space and created an area which allows staff to take the residents outside to engage in social activity and sensory stimulation. By tending to plants and herbs, the Salvation Army's goal is to maintain the memory and cognitive function of the residents and improve their motor skills and coordination.  The staff hopes the garden will provide its residents with a sense of responsibility and achievement, as well as reduce their stress by giving them an outlet for activity.

Huge thanks to the 32 TRIBE members who came out on a rainy day and helped create a beautiful space for one of Hong Kong's often underserved communities.
