As part of its ongoing support of the Royal Hibernian Academy (RHA) – we held the second instalment of the Avolon Youthreach Programme, a daylong workshop designed to inspire artistic creativity among early school leavers in Ireland. The programme enables the RHA to identify and nurture artist talent and to encourage the students to consider further education within the arts. Collaborating with the national Youthreach scheme, the RHA will invite six young students each year, selected from submissions from the 160 Youthreach Centres nationwide, to participate in four workshops to increase their art skills, introduce them to visiting art galleries and art colleges and offer basic tools of criticism. As well as developing practical skills, by working alongside a practising artist, this opportunity offers students the ability to explore the opportunities and challenges of being a professional artist in Ireland today. The workshop also includes a trip to Kennedy’s Art Supplies, where students can purchase the equipment and materials, paid for by Avolon, to begin their artistic journey. About The Royal Hibernian Academy The Royal Hibernian Academy is an artist based and artist orientated institution dedicated to developing, affirming and challenging the public’s appreciation and understanding of traditional and innovative approaches to the visual arts. The Academy achieves its objectives through its exhibition education and collection programmes. The Academy is funded by the Arts Council/An Chomhairle Eala’on, through fundraising initiatives, through the earned revenue from its Annual Exhibition and by the Benefactors, Patrons and Friends of the Academy.
