South American artist Adriana Salazar was selected as the first winner of Avolon’s Global Studio Award, a six-month residency at Dublin’s Royal Hibernian Academy (RHA). The studio residency offers a once in a lifetime opportunity for an international, emerging artist to raise their profile on a global platform to develop their practice within the environs of one of Ireland’s leading contemporary art organisations. The award also covers six-months of rent, utilities bills and a monthly stipend provided by Avolon. More than 80 artists applied in the open call and the RHA selected installation artist Adriana, who is based in Mexico City. Adriana’s work explores the boundaries between life and death, nature and artifice and the human and non-human context. She begins her residency in July 2016.
