Great Ethiopian Run 2018

Great Ethiopian Run 2018

On Monday November 12 th 2018, 22 TRIBE members travelled with Vita to Addis Ababa to take part in the 2018 Great Ethiopian Run. Prior to taking part in the annual 10km run throughout the streets of Addis Ababa, the group travelled to southern Ethiopia to visit a number of Vita’s projects.

Vita supports families in Ethiopia and Eritrea as they build sustainable livelihoods by ensuring that they have food, energy and water security while reducing the drudgery of collecting water and sticks, particularly for women and children.

Turmi was the first stop on the tour to visit the Hammer and Dassenech tribes to see the water and irrigation projects and to experience the lives of the ancient nomadic pastoralists. Next stop was the Unesco World Heritage Cultural Area followed by a trip to Chencha to see the potato, water pump, stove, weaving co-ops and pottery co-ops before continuing back to Addis Ababa for race day.

Throughout the journey through the magnificent scenery of southern Ethiopia, locals of all ages gave lively performances of local songs and dances making the trip a once in a life time experience.
