Spin for a Cure Fundraiser – Type 1 Diabetes

We had a spectacular time at the Spin for a Cure Fundraiser. Thanks to Avolon’s generous donation and all our supporters we raised close to $13,000 which will go directly to help finding a cure for Type 1 Diabetes. Despite the event being over, donations continue to come in and combined with last year’s event plus Avolons donations we have raised over $26,000. We have another fundraiser being launched on Wednesday November 14th on Diabetes Awareness Day at my daughter’s school which will not only raise funds for finding a cure but educate children and their families about the symptoms of this disease and what it’s like for a young child to deal with Type 1 every day.

Our event this past Sunday was filled with excitement, courage, energy and an amazing bunch of people including a mom who’s 7-year-old daughter has type 1, a father who’s 16-year-old has type 1, a school nurse who watches over a young T1D child every day in school, a diabetes educator from Tandem Corporation and amazing family, friends and supporters of this worthy cause.  People traveled from New Jersey, Westchester, New York City and all over Long Island to be a part of this event.  The power of people, their kindness, generosity and willingness to lend a hand resonated throughout the entire time and continues. The event capped off with a raffle of over $1,300 worth of prizes from local organizations who donated generous gifts and was well received by the supporters which raised another $300 through the $5 and $10 raffle ticket purchases.

We could not be more pleased with the success of this event and the generosity of Avolon, the Tribe and all those who support the goal of making Type 1 Type none.
