Dublin Care Day 2018

Avolon staff partner with the Irish Youth Foundation (“IYF”), Fighting Words and Aurora, Glencree in Glencree, Co. Wicklow for the first EMEA regional CARE Day with the assistance of Difference Days.

Aurora is a Recreation and Education Centre located in the peaceful rural setting of the Wicklow Hills, established in 1967 to serve disadvantaged children and young people living in urban areas of Dublin. It is set in 40 acres of forestry and farmland and has beautiful natural surroundings with forests, hills and a river on its doorstep. The complex consists of a cottage, a classroom / hostel building and a separate hostel building with kitchen facilities. Glencree provided the perfect setting for an Avolon CARE day which was transformed on the day by 180 TRIBE members.

A wet and dark morning turned into a lovely sunny afternoon in June. The creation of a large Amphitheatre was central to the transformation of Aurora, with the creation of an outdoor river classroom, assault course and the renovation of the surrounding buildings, completed the vision of the IYF, Fighting words and Difference Days. The wonderful St Agnes Chamber Orchestra provided the team with entertainment during the much needed lunch break which gave the team the motivation to continue digging, painting and building in the afternoon.

Another great opportunity for the EMEA TRIBE to step away from their regular working day to experience a special day to remember that would change the experience of Fighting Words members on their visits to Aurora for years to come.
